Makeabook (web and iPhone beta) · October 2026

What we store

Your account (a username and passkey; an email only if you add one), and what you put in your books: recordings of your voice, their transcripts, the ideas and text you write, photos you add, and how you organize them. Your books are private to your account unless you share them.

To see where the app is confusing, we also keep a simple log of which screens you open and what you do (for example "started a recording", "made a book", how long a recording was, to the nearest bucket). It never includes your words, transcripts or titles, isn't shared with anyone, is deleted after 90 days, and goes with your account if you delete it.

How it's processed

Data is stored with Convex (our database and hosting provider). To transcribe recordings and to make summaries, questions, illustrations and covers from your own words, the relevant text or audio is sent to AI providers (through Convex's AI gateway) only to produce that result. Makeabook never writes your book for you and never sells or rents your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

On iPhone

The microphone records notes when you ask it to. The camera is used only to keep Lock Screen capture running (no video is recorded) and to add photos you choose. Location is used only to wake the app to upload notes you recorded; it isn't stored or shared.

Deleting your data

You can delete ideas, recordings, photos and books in the app. To delete your whole account, open Settings in the iPhone app and tap Delete account…. That removes your books, ideas, recordings, photos and the shares you own. What you added to other people's shared books stays with those books. You can also ask through the Chef button and we'll remove it for you.

Questions

Use the Chef button in the app (bottom right on the web, or in the iPhone app).
